Since it was still hard for me to understand how tails or scarves can move dynamically, I tried to do a bouncing character that was more stiff and required less follow-through.
I first studied follow-through concepts and drew them out roughly to see how they would look like animated. This was a test I did to see how follow-throughs work that I initially drew with just a line and then progressively made it look more like a tail.
I thought that I understood how it worked, and tried to draw the character and also the tail over the bouncing ball animations that we did in the first week. However, I found that the tail follow through didn’t work as fluid as I wanted it to with the bouncing ball animations I made.
After several trials, I then realized it was because I followed the timing of the ball and simply attached a tail to it without minding the timing of the tail.
Then I took a reference video and focused more on the timing and position of the tail. After seeing that it sort of worked, I tried to draw a character with a bow on her head and applied what I learned from the animation I did on the tail.
